Artists Bio
Arthur Day enjoyed a long and successful career in international diplomacy. After an appointment to the U.S. Foreign Service in 1950, Day held posts as Deputy Chief of Mission in Berlin, Consul General in Jerusalem, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. Retirement in 1985 allowed Day to devote himself full time to painting. He studied at the Art Students League in New York and soon began exhibiting and winning awards. Currently he divides his time between Washington, D.C. and Cape Cod. Architectural subjects allow Day to focus on the patterns of light and dark created by the scenes of everyday life storefronts, fire escapes, signage and an occasional figure in a doorway.
Artists Statement
Through my painting I try to convey the excitement of patterns while at the same time expressing some of the essence of the subjects themselves.
