Suzanne Wiggin

The thirty years Suzanne Wiggin has lived in the Taos valley has had a profound impact on her artistic vision.  This land with its storms and clear light is the focus of her paintings.  Her education includes a Masters of Fine Arts from Boston University and a Bachelor of Art Education from the University of New Mexico.  In 1993 she painted an on-site commissioned altarpiece for the San Lorenzo a Grignano Church in Italy.  She exhibited at the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ 1995 Invitational in New York, Southwest 1996 and New Mexico 2000 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe and Contemporary Art/Taos at the Harwood Museum in New Mexico.

Our home sits on the eastern edge of a bowl perched upon the side of a mountain. On a clear day you can see nearly a hundred miles. The weather comes from the west. Clouds move across this vast space towards us, piling against the mountains behind. There is time to study an approaching storm. Light is the variable element. It is the verb, revealing and concealing endless detail. This direct observation of the landscape provides the primary motif for my paintings and monoprints.  My intention is to hold a moment.
